Every profession is appertained to teacher, weather it has least or most priority. Both barber as well as leader needs a teacher to start their profession. Even a teacher himself is made by the teacher. And every great man begins his journey of life under the shade of a teacher. Sachin Tendulkar is a liveexample. His first teacher (coach) was Ramakant Achrekar, who taught him how to handle bat in a playfield. On a teacher’s day Sachin tweeted “dreams begin with a teacher, who believes in you, who hugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called ‘truth’.” So it is apt to call a teacher builder of nation who must be respected by the society.
The teacher was treated the most noble and honorable person in ancient civilization. He had always gained exaltation in the society since the birth of a man and was considered a demigod .Our beloved prophet Mohammad (s.a.w) himself said that he was sent as a teacher for the whole humanity. The eminent scholars and poets have paid great tribute to the teacher and endowed him with a crown of respect in their writing. Dr. Sir Mohammad Iqbal had compared teacher with an architect who prepares human soul. With no further description, I want to state my theme directly that teacher’s reward and status is very high who must be respected.
However we are living in an age where teacher is bereft of any respect and glory. He is being marginalized and victimized in the present domain of education. He is oppressed both in private as well as government institutions. The callous approach of private schools towards the teacher is more rancid than government schools. It is better to call these institutions money machines than schools. Their approach and policy of teaching is based on capitalism not on humanism. Needy unemployed youth who possess nothing in their pockets are allowed to work in such institutions as teachers. As such they are bought for few pennies and used as slaves for the wholeacademic session. They are tortured both mentally as well as physically. The people who oppress these young, talented and well qualified teachers are business professionals not educators, who do not even know what educations aims at. Their only and only aim is to grab money from learners by exploiting energetic human resource (teacher). They treat them as a mere object of toy, playing with their sentiments and emotions. When such tyrant and barbaric approach isprovided towards teaching profession how could we call it a noble and respected job. It has lost its glory in the present scenario of education.
The little or no gap between teacher-student kinship has also decreased the worth and honor of a teacher. Modern students do not come to pass in a good way before a teacher. No doubt teacher is a friend but during classroom it becomes difficult to differentiate between student and teacher. It is better to call him peer than a teacher when he is in-between them. In present age, Students proclivities towards teacher are also capitalistic like school owners. They know that he is being paid little salary like a daily porter though he works hard manual work. So they treat him accordingly, however teacher’s real treasure is respect not material gains.
It is now obligation of the government to provide such measures by which teacher’s respect is regained, otherwise the remaining status of teacher may also get lost. Rules and regulations of both private as well as government institutions must be strict to assure teacher’s worth and regard. Related authorities must ensure that weather requisite demand of teachers is met or not in private institutions. Moreover, education department should confer a special merit to teacher through different honors and awards. Last but not least, general public should be given awareness about teacher’s reputation and status because teacher’s dignity is also diminishing in the society.
